Technology Progression
Just a quick blog about how incredibly fast technology progresses. It seems like as soon as you buy an electronic equipment or a computer component, few months later it is outdated, outdone, doubled in speed and half the size. I don’t want to date myself too far, but I am sure some of you will recall 286, 386 and 486 computers before the pentiums arrived. It was an amazing machine if it had 8Mb RAM, 256kb video, 100Mb Hard Drive and perhaps later a x1 speed CD-Rom. Ha, I know you guys are nodding right now. Its amazing to look back not even a decade to see such a transformation. I remember when internet was only in hypertext with no pictures. Eventually some midi music and patterned backgrounds gave birth to multitude of audio and video apps that we are blessed with today
I just thought I’d reflect a little when I came across the add below. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be an early adopter and wait for the mass production to better the technology and drive the cost down. I look around my office and wonder how much money and effort was spent to have everything working “seamlessly”. And what really gets me is the fact that for an instance an older peripheral is not compatible with a newer OS or vice versa. I have an older Agfa scanner which used to be top of the line at one time. However the scanner is rendered useless as the drivers are no longer compatible with newer Windows and not to even mention MAC.
So that is my techno geek musing for today. If you want to add to my “reflections” please don’t be shy to comment, email or call. Everyone have an amazing rest of the weekend!
